HERMANOS Y HERMANAS

To THE IRISH PEOPLE
TO THE GOVERNEMENTS IN THIS WORLD
TO THE NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL MEDIA
TO THE WORLD
BROTHERS AND SISTERS

Yesterday May 5th 2015, our comrade Gerard “Jock” Davison, commander of the Provisional IRA, was shot dead in his way to work in South Belfast, in the North of Ireland. This is another Imperialist State crime of the British Empire.
What does that matter! British, Yanks, French, Spanish… All imperialists are the same all over the world and do what they know best: plunder, murder, oppress, torture, kidnap... the countries and the people who oppose their interests. To do this, they use their enormous apparatus of economic warfare and political interference, media indoctrination and ultimately, the invasion of countries or the physical elimination of the revolutionaries who do not surrender. And this has been the case with "Jock". Shot first, they now use their information networks to try and assassinate his prestige, his honour, his revolutionary principles, his desire for freedom and equality that he grew up with, his life as a revolutionary.
When we get to know the history of the Irish people, one cannot avoid being shocked at the terrible repression these people have suffered over the last 800 years at the hands of the all-powerful British Empire. It’s not the fact that they've been second-class citizens in their own land, but that they have simply not had the right to be citizens. Famines that caused millions of deaths, indiscriminate massacres, exile for much of its population which forced them to disperse throughout the world, concentration camps without trial for years even for under age people, apartheid policies, internment in walled areas of their cities etc ... Always the same oppression, in its many shapes and forms, adapting to the times, but the same yesterday and today. And that’s what "Jock" fought against.
He was only a teenager when at sixteen years of age he had his first experience of prison internment for four years. But this did not break him, it made him a person of honour and a revolutionary activist, with principles and ideals that never left him and which are still with him.  And as a person with huge experience of repression in his own country, he understood like no one else the oppression suffered by sister nations. He understood very well what imperialist interference was. And he always stood in solidarity with the oppressed, extending a helping hand to anyone in need anywhere in the world. If we want an example of internationalist and revolutionary solidarity, we can choose commander of the Provisional IRA Gerard "Jock" Davison.
After the peace negotiations of Good Friday in 1998, the North of Ireland (still under the British rule) entered a process of normalisation, in which the prisoners of that time were released, and the ones in exile could return home. The struggle entered a less confrontational phase. And "Jock" also fought in that process, always following his principles and desire for a united, independent and socialist Ireland. But those who oppose this, and know about the integrity of "Jock" could not allow his example - THE HONOUR AND GLORY OF A REVOLUTIONARY MAN.
"Jock" had and has many friends in Venezuela. More than friends they are brothers and sisters. Even those who did not have the pleasure of meeting him in person can claim to be his family, and that’s how he would have wanted it. This is the large family of revolutionary activists of the world, which above language, colour, religion... come solidarity, justice, loyalty, fondness, love ... that unites us all.
"Jock" was to come and visit us in Venezuela. He intended to do that next Summer, an overdue trip that had been delayed by so many commitments. We are disappointed that he has not physically walked this land, but we are proud to know that he knew and loved Venezuela and the Venezuelan revolutionaries.
"Jock" is not dead. Who dies sinks into the abyss of oblivion. And "Jock", his charisma, dedication and example will remain over the generations and will be written with golden letters in the glorious history of the gigantic Irish People.

Solidarity is the fondness of our people.
OUR REVENGE WILL BE LAUGHTER OF OUR CHILDREN
From Venezuela, land of liberators, 522 years into the anti-imperialist resistance in America and 204 years into our independence.
Signed by, Member of the National Assembly, Juan Contreras, with the Simón Bolívar organisation, a grassroots organisation, which is revolutionary,  internationalist, pro-indigenous, Socialist of the people and who stands in solidarity.
